Privacy
This page sets out what this site does with your data. It is not much, and it is written here because we checked it in the code ourselves.
This page is a translation of the Dutch version at zazu.nl/privacy/.
The text below describes what this site actually does, checked in the code. It is not a legal statement; that will follow and will come from ZAZU itself.
What we do not do
This site sets no tracking cookies and loads no advertising pixels. That is why there is no cookie banner. We do count visits with Vercel Web Analytics: it counts page views and a few events (a form sent, a tap on the phone number) without cookies, and we cannot recognise or follow any visitor in it.
The forms on this site (contact, the free scan on the homepage and the advice from Where to start) send your message through the email service Resend to info@zazu.nl, and you receive a confirmation at the address you entered. We do not store your data anywhere other than in those emails. To stop spam, we do a few things without a captcha or a cookie: a hidden field that a person leaves empty, a code the page receives from our server when it loads and that only becomes valid three seconds later, a check that the submission comes from this site, and when you send it, Vercel (where this site runs) uses an invisible test in your browser to check that the submission comes from a real browser. Messages that look like spam (several links, sales talk, a disposable address) do reach us, marked as such, but the sender then gets no automatic confirmation. We accept a handful of messages per address every ten minutes.
What is stored in your browser
Five things, all in your own browser's storage:
zazu_hero_modusandzazu_hero_gezien: which variant the animated logo shows, and whether you have already dismissed the hint.zazu_persona_domain: the domain you enter for the personalisation in the header.zazu_persona_site: what we recognised on the site you entered (how the name is written, the icon, the platform and the type of site). After seven days we look again.zazu_sticker_0onwards: where you have put the stickers in the footer.zazu_herkomst(only while the tab is open): if you arrive through an ad or a link with campaign codes, your browser remembers those codes (such as utm and gclid), the page you landed on and the time. If you then send a form, those codes go along in the email to us, so we know which ad produced the enquiry, and our server reports the enquiry with that click code to Google Ads (see below). Close the tab and this is gone.
If you clear this site's data in your browser, it is gone. We cannot access it, except for the campaign codes you send along with a form yourself.
What does leave your browser
If you enter a domain for the personalisation, the following happens:
- Our server looks at the homepage of that domain. That is how we recognise the name, the icon and the type of site, and can show what we would do for that business. We keep none of it, apart from one day in our hosting's cache.
- Your browser fetches the icon directly from that site. If that site has none, your browser asks Google for it (
gstatic.com). - WordPress.com (
s0.wp.com/mshots) takes a screenshot of that homepage.
So the site at that domain, WordPress.com and sometimes Google can see that someone entered the domain. If you enter nothing, none of this happens.
Measuring ads without a cookie
If you arrive through a Google ad and then send a form, our server reports that enquiry to Google Ads, with only the click code from the ad link and the time. That tells us which ad produced an enquiry. Your name, email address and message are not sent. If you do not arrive through an ad, this does not happen. No cookie is set for this and no Google script is loaded in your browser; it is a message from our server to Google's.
The feedback layer
If you view this site through a review link, a feedback overlay loads from prikbord-zazu.vercel.app. It stores what you enter yourself: your name, your comments, and a screenshot of the part of the page you click on. That is the purpose of such a link. If you come here without a review link, that layer does nothing.
